Open-Air Museum de Locht
At Open Air Museum de Locht one experiences the way of life, living and working in the North Limburg countryside through the centuries. Visitors experience the inhabitants' quest for food, clothing and shelter; from the simple farmers of the Middle Ages to today's modern agricultural entrepreneurs. No matter the weather, there is always plenty to do and discover at the Locht.
Located in the northern Limburg town of Melderslo, De Locht encompasses about 20 buildings scattered over an area of more than three acres. Visitors can discover what life was like on a medieval farm, take a look inside a fully furnished 19th-century farmhouse, and experience how people lived, lived and worked in the North Limburg countryside between 1850 and 1950. The museum offers access to the textile pavilion, blacksmith shop, syrup factory and much more. There is too much to mention.
Get to know the North Limburg agricultural sector
The museum connects to the past, as well as the present. Visitors will find everything about the cultivation of mushrooms and asparagus, and follow developments in greenhouse farming, from flat glass to today's high-tech greenhouses with the latest cultivation methods. The gardens, herb garden, cultivation of soft fruit, flax, forgotten vegetables, and floral displays offer a wonderful experience.
There are regular demonstrations of old crafts, such as the blacksmith, bread baking, clog making, and much more. During the winter months, concerts are held in the atmospheric chapel, and there are also always interesting changing exhibitions. De Locht is both fun and educational for children; there is a digital scavenger hunt, Old Dutch games and regularly organized children's activities. In addition, the Locht can also be visited virtually; it is the first museum in the world to be recreated in ROBLOX.
