Museum in former town hall
The museum is located in the former town hall of Stevensweert, which was designed by Roermond architect P. Cuypers. The museum's name refers to the two residential areas on the island, Stevensweert and Ohé en Laak. In the museum, the film 'Maaseiland van alle tijden' introduces you to the origins of this special area and the Stevensweert fortress.
Museum Stevensweert-Ohé en Laak Collection
The collection is divided into various themes, such as excavation finds, sculptures, coins and medals. The models of Stevensweert Castle, Walburg Castle and Stevensweert Fortress bring history to life. The most famous excavation find ever made in the Netherlands can be admired in the museum: the silver replica of the Stevensweert lace-haros.
- Recently, there are three new showcases on the subject: 80-year war: Campaign along the Meuse in 1632 / Construction of the fortress island in the Meuse / War of the Spanish Succession: Battle of Stevensweert in 1702 / Role of Count Vincent von Hompesch in this war.
